Our passion for celebrating music begins with our founder, Scott Edwards, aka Scotty. Scott was born and raised in Western Ohio where he first learned to play instruments and read music as a young boy. His family would travel to visit Scott’s great grandparents at Indian Lake and since there were no toys for Scott and his brother Chris to play with, Scott turned to music. It was there that Scott learned to play organ at age 4 and the rest of his story led us to Key West.
Scott spent most of his life playing music, from the organ at age 4 to the clarinet in junior high and then on to the guitar at age 13. Scott’s love of music and talent eventually rested on the guitar. He has traveled the country playing all kinds of genres in many venues. His collection of guitars is vast, eclectic and are considered his pride and joy. For almost 20 years Scott taught private guitar, banjo, and ukulele lessons to students of all ages at a local music store in Powell, Ohio. It was through teaching that he met Brant Rhoad, a local entrepreneur, who happened to be one of Scott’s students. Brant also saw Scotty’s vision and partnered up to be co-owner of Scotty’s Front Street Stage.
The dream started when Scott and his wife Krista traveled to Key West to celebrate their 4th anniversary. They had a short visit to the island and had rainy weather. Krista felt it was a “nice enough place” but she was ready to return to their home base in Ohio. On the other hand, Scott saw an opportunity as they walked the streets and his brain became flooded with ideas. Scott envisioned a music venue where he could showcase the newest up and coming talent from around the nation while highlighting favorite local musicians. Since Scott and Krista had plans to retire to an island, Scott figured Key West would be an ideal location to fulfill his dream and their goal, 20 years ahead of schedule. In January 2020, just 6 short weeks before the beginning of the pandemic, Scott loaded up his Jeep and a 6-foot trailer and headed South on a leap of faith. Throughout 2020, while the rest of the world was at its worst, Scott was persistent to follow his dream. On December 30, 2020, Scotty’s Front Street Stage turned from a vision to reality when the doors were finally opened to the public.
When asked about launching Scotty’s Front Street Stage, Scott replied “This is the culmination of everything I’ve done in my life. We moved to Key West because I want to be a hands-on owner and I want to be involved with everything- the Key West culture, the state-of-mind and the deep-rooted friendships. This is my paradise.”
So, sit back and relax. Enjoy your favorite beverage, great food and live entertainment. But most of all, thank you for being part of our story.
